About Us

Built for the ones who never felt like they belonged.

OUR MISSION

Practice doesn’t require perfection.

Misfit Yoga, Meditation & Wellness is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to supporting whole person healing through yoga, meditation, and wellness practices. We offer inclusive yoga classes, guided meditation, and counseling services designed to help individuals reconnect with themselves, find balance, and cultivate lasting well-being.

At Misfit, we believe wellness is not one size fits all. It’s a personal journey, an opportunity to choose your own path and rediscover your strength, grace, and inner calm. Whether through movement, stillness, or mindful reflection, we create space for you to clear your mind, untangle your body, and return to your breath, one moment at a time.

The name “Misfit” honors those who have ever felt different, unseen, or out of place. Here, being a misfit is not something to fix, it’s something to embrace. It represents individuality, resilience, and the courage to live authentically.

In a fast-paced world, we intentionally slow things down. We encourage mindful movement, conscious breathing, and compassionate awareness. Our mission is rooted in service, to uplift individuals and strengthen communities through love, generosity, acceptance, tolerance, and compassion.

Through our yoga, meditation, and counseling programs, we empower people to manage stress, build emotional resilience, and become active participants in their own health and well-being. Misfit Yoga, Meditation & Wellness is more than a studio, it’s a supportive community where everyone belongs and can thrive.

“We don’t ask you to leave anything at the door. Bring your grief, your doubt, your tired body. That’s what the practice is for.”

MEET THE FOUNDER

“I started Misfit because I was the person who didn’t feel like I belonged in a yoga studio. Turns out, there are a lot of us.”

Johnathan Thomas, PhD, D.DIV, CHT, E-RYT 200, RYT 500, YACEP
Founder of Misfit Yoga, Meditation & Wellness

Johnathan Thomas is a guide for those who have never quite felt at home in the world as it is and who are quietly, courageously learning to create a home within themselves.

A psychologist, yoga teacher, somatic and trauma informed practitioner, and former monk, Johnathan walks at the intersection of science and spirit. His work is rooted in the understanding that healing is not about fixing what is broken, but about remembering what has always been whole. Through yoga, meditation, Yoga Nidra, Yin Yoga and Restorative Yoga practices, he offers spaces where the nervous system can soften, the body can speak, and the soul can be heard again.

As the founder of Misfit Yoga, Meditation & Wellness, Johnathan honors the sacred path of the outsider, the ones who feel too much, question deeply, and don’t fit neatly into the structures they were given. He believes that being a misfit is not a flaw, but a calling: an invitation to live authentically, love radically, and awaken fully.

His teachings are deeply influenced by his years as a Buddhist monk and teacher, where he cultivated a life of stillness, discipline, and devotion. Today, he brings that same presence into his work as a psychologist, yoga teacher, author, poet, and educator, blending ancient wisdom with modern therapeutic insight.

Johnathan’s voice is gentle yet powerful, offering a compassionate mirror for those navigating trauma, transformation, and the quiet longing to belong. His work is not about becoming someone new, but about returning, again and again to the truth of who you are beneath the noise.

For those who feel like misfits, seekers, or wanderers, Johnathan offers this reminder:

You were never meant to fit in.
You were meant to awaken.
